Rule — Surface uncontrollable constraints (proximity, time, vertical) instead of selling around them
Created 2026-06-23
Rule
Rule: The widget surfaces uncontrollable constraints rather than selling around them.
Why: Owners pay agencies for outcomes that physics-of-the-system makes impossible (e.g., out-ranking a competitor 1 mile from the searcher when they are 5 miles away). Saying so up front is the most honest service.
How to apply:
- Local businesses: proximity caps achievable visibility (~55% of local-pack weight per Whitespark — Proximity dominates local-pack and is uncontrollable — ~55% of weight).
- Low-authority new domains: time caps achievable rank (Ahrefs 1.74% / 5-year-old-#1 — Ahrefs May 2025 — only 1.74% of newly published pages reach top 10 within a year (vendor)).
- Hyper-competitive verticals: competitor entrenchment caps achievable share (sister brief Research brief: SMB widget market difficulty — six ranked factors (June 2026) and Research brief: SMB widget vertical difficulty — two-axis tiering by industry (June 2026)).
