Candid field research May 2026: n=25 KW-region GC websites — five recurring failure patterns

Methodology: Homepage and About fetch; visible certification badges; project-page sampling; CMS/platform fingerprint from page source. n=25 GC and custom-home websites across the KW region and broader Ontario, plus a smaller comparison group of GC-focused agencies.

Confidence: Single-source — Candid field research, May 2026. Illustrative, not statistically representative. A broader sample (50-100 sites) would strengthen the failure-pattern claims; treat as directional pattern recognition.

Five most common failure patterns:

  1. Regulatory badges missing. Most sampled residential GC sites don't show HCRA licence # or Tarion logo (see HCRA licenses Ontario new-home builders; 6,500+ licensees searchable in the public Ontario Builder Directory, Tarion 1-2-7 new-home warranty + Pre-Delivery Inspection — Ontario new-home builders must enroll homes). Fastest credibility lift available.
  2. Project photos without provenance. Stock-styled tile grids — no date, no city, no scope, no budget range. Homeowners assume the worst.
  3. No primary call to action. Multiple competing buttons (Call / Email / Form / Newsletter / Quote) in one viewport. Candid's single-CTA discipline is a direct fix.
  4. Page-builder bloat. Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, Wix — heavy themes load slowly on mobile and create maintenance debt. Devlan's Wix build with literal "Page Under Construction" copy in the source HTML is the extreme example.
  5. Blog last updated 2022. A "News" tab with three posts from 2020 is worse than no blog — signals abandonment.

Companion entries: KW Tier-1 GC prospects (May 2026): Ball, Devlan, Klondike, Schnarr Legacy Craftsmen, Verdone, KW regional GC exemplars (use as reference, not prospects): Pioneer Craftsmen, Melloul-Blamey, CHART Home.
